Boeing Bay Area Boulevard
Boeing, the world’s leading aerospace company and aircraft manufacturer, maintains two primary facilities in Houston for its aerospace operations. One of them, the Bay Area Boulevard Building (BAB), is a six-story, 416,791 square foot structure built in 1985 and purchased by Boeing in 2005. More than 1,500 employees work at the BAB in the company’s NASA Systems, Integrated Defense Systems and Future Combat Systems business units. Boeing’s acquisition of the facility effectively tripled the company’s electric power consumption in Houston at a time when energy management became a top corporate priority. The building’s original pneumatic controls, with their DDC overlay, were incapable of supporting energysaving strategies while maintaining a comfortable and productive workplace environment. Under Boeing’s continual process improvement program, Automated Logic Corporation-United Environmental Services (ALC-UES) was contracted to upgrade building automation systems and help the company implement energy-saving strategies.
