West Metro Education Program (WMEP) Schools

The West Metro Education Program (WMEP) is a voluntary consortium of 11 urban and suburban school districts in the Minneapolis metropolitan area that was formed in 1989 to cooperatively address integration and specialty education issues in the west metro area.

WMEP schools are a tuition free, K-12 Fine Arts Interdisciplinary Resource community empowered by diversity, and committed to academic excellence and artistic expression.

Nationally Recognized and Award Winning

FAIR School Crystal was featured in the U.S. Department of Education Innovations in Education Guide for Creating and Sustaining Successful K-8 Magnet Schools. The guide highlights six schools nationally for strong academic achievement and success in reducing minority group isolation for at least four consecutive years. Among other awards, the school has been acknowledged for its use of the fine arts in education as a Creative Ticket National School of Distinction Award Winner.

A Fine Arts Magnet School

In January, the Joint Powers Board voted to change the magnet focus of FAIR School Downtown to the Fine Arts. A Steering Committee has been formed to develop an innovative curriculum that will enrich the schools already empowering student experience. Curriculum changes will be in effect September, 2009 for the 2009-2010 school year.
