Scope

The Project Engineer is responsible for the successful completion of the DDC engineering phase of a project assigned to his or her team in order to meet contractual requirements. The engineering phase includes the project turnover meeting, conducting site surveys, submittal package design and development, material ordering and application engineering development. This position also encompasses completing project cost re-estimates, documenting and maintaining company and customer standards and assisting in preparing and conducting training.

 

Duties

1. SUBMITTAL PACKAGE DESIGN/DEVELOPMENT

  •  Conducts project turnover meetings with the Sales Engineer, Area Supervisor and other ALCC personnel as required to officially transfer all sales related information to the engineer so the actual project design phase may begin.
  • Designs and develops panel layouts, network layouts, wiring diagrams per customer and/or company standards utilizing Microsoft Visio 2003.
  • Selects materials including DDC modules, field sensing and control devices, dampers and valves to meet the project requirements, specifications, codes and customer standards.
  • Submits material order forms for all project required materials to the purchasing group along with detailed “when needed” dates to ensure project deadlines are met.
  • Completes each assigned project focusing on customer satisfaction and specification compliance while trying to maintain budgetary guidelines.

 2. APPLICATION/SOFTWARE ENGINEERING

  •  Utilizes company or customer standard EIKON programs for designing the graphic function blocks for assigned projects. The goal is to utilize standard GFB’s on multiple projects and only utilize custom GFB’s where it is absolutely necessary.
  • Tests the project’s GFB’s to ensure they meet the specified sequences of operation and that they perform according to industry standards.
  • Creates project database utilizing company and customer standards.
  • Designs and develops the project graphic package utilizing customer and company standards.
  • Submit the graphics design package to Automated Logic for completion.
  • Reviews the project’s graphic package upon return from ALC to ensure the package was completed per direction and that all graphical links, values and depictions operate and display properly and function appropriately in the field.
  • Ensures the project’s graphic package is complete according to schedule and that the finished package is available to field personnel prior to commencing with project startup and checkout.

 3. PROJECT COST REVIEW AND RE-ESTIMATE COMPLETION

  •  Completes operations re-estimate for each project (excluding “quick turn” projects) after the submittals are approved, subcontracts have been negotiated and the estimated costs have been compared to the contractual requirements.
  • Details any discrepancies between sales estimate and actual re-estimate values. Provide detail and feedback to Sales Engineer and Area Supervisor for use on future project estimates and for educational value.

4. STANDARDS DOCUMENTATION

 Develops, documents and maintains customer standards as related to their requirements for :

a. System graphic displays

b. Eikon GFB typical programs and methods of operating certain equipment

c. Submittal package presentation]

d. Network Layouts for WAN, LAN, CMnet, Unet, and any require Servers, Routers or other

hardware.

e. Installation methods, standards or preferred hardware.

Qualifications

  •  Engineering College or 4-year technical school graduate plus a minimum of 3 years of engineering or field experience with DDC Systems.
  • Knowledgeable in DDC control theory and applications pertaining to the HVAC/control industry.
  • Highly skilled in use of Automated Logic’s EIKON programming, Sitebuilder, Draw, and other system related application software packages.
  • Skilled in use of personal computer with software Microsoft Windows 98/2000/NT, Microsoft Office 97, Microsoft Visio 2000 or the equivalents used by company.
  • Able to carry/setup and climb an 8’ ladder without assistance.
  • Able to visit job construction hard hat areas and climb stairs, maneuver in and around pipework and air ducts and work safely in close proximity to exposed line voltage and low voltage wiring and terminations.
  • Participates in and supports company’s drug free work place program
