Open Systems

Proprietary systems? They’re history. Today’s building control is an open discussion: open systems, open architecture and open standards.

Open systems offer new levels of operational efficiency, flexibility and cost effectiveness. With open architecture, users can install integrated, easily modified systems using innovative combinations of components — including components from competing providers. They also provide practical solutions for remote operations and multi-system control from single workstations.

With our product-wide integration of native BACnet, Automated Logic's open system architecture has effectively returned building control to the user. BACnet's superior scalability and performance (from low-speed networks to high-speed Ethernet) enable ALC systems to satisfy a wide range of institutional needs, from single sites to multi-building campuses. As a charter member of the BACnet Manufacturers Association (BMA) we are helping the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) keep BACnet at the forefront of technology. We also helped establish the BACnet Testing Laboratory to ensure that our products and all other manufacturers’ BACnet products meet ASHRAE’s standards for interoperability.

This open systems approach is now paying benefits like never before. After all, it’s the only approach capable of taking full advantage of the Web. It’s also the reason our newest building control system, WebCTRL®, offers end-to-end freedom you just won’t find anywhere else.

Powerful and Intuitive Products

high-speed-ethernet-router.png(small)Along with our emphasis on open systems, Automated Logic has always developed products with the end user in mind – making the most intuitive, user-friendly products on the market. In 1985, Automated Logic introduced SuperVision®, a graphical user interface that transformed building automation. Its dynamic, custom color graphics set the industry standard in quality, convenience and ease of use by providing operational and comfort conditions at a glance. Its powerful scheduling, setpoint and advanced control algorithms made energy optimization simple, and a comprehensive trend history function captured savings and aided diagnostics. Now, all of this user-friendly functionality is available through a standard Web browser with WebCTRL, our Web-based building control system. With WebCTRL, end users can access their building control systems from many types of Web-enabled devices, such as a standard PC, cell phone or personal digital assistant (PDA), and have the same functionality without any special software or plug-ins required.
