EMORY MUSCULOSKELETAL INSTITUTE

The Players

To realize their vision of becoming a model for transformative, sustainable practices, Emory Healthcare embarked on a new project: the cutting-edge, 180,000 square-foot Musculoskeletal Institute (MSKI).

The Challenge

The challenge was to integrate advanced, eco-friendly building technologies to create a healthy, safe, sustainable, and intelligent environment for patients and staff. This included optimizing indoor environments for occupant experience, operational efficiency, and improved health, productivity, and cognitive performance, all while aligning with Emory's vision of transformative practices and sustainable choices. Emory Healthcare turned to Carrier and Automated Logic for innovative building technologies to meet these ambitious goals.

The Solution

The Emory Musculoskeletal Institute deployed a comprehensive suite of innovative building technologies, with the Automated Logic WebCTRL® building automation system at its core. This powerful web-based platform provides the MSKI Facilities team with the tools and insights needed to maintain occupant comfort, manage energy consumption, and proactively identify and analyze operational issues.

The integrated solution also includes:

  • HVAC management for optimized indoor air quality and ventilation.
  • Monitoring of fire detection systems for enhanced safety and response.
  • Access and video management solutions, including mobile credentialing technology through the MyWay app, for a safer, more secure experience with reduced touch points.
  • Digital services, including the integration of Carrier's Abound IoT platform with WebCTRL, to monitor indoor air quality and operational performance, with data displayed on user-friendly dashboards in the main lobby and on MSK's website.
The Outcome

By implementing a full suite of intelligent building technologies, centered around the WebCTRL® system, the Emory Musculoskeletal Institute has successfully created a world-class facility that prioritizes the health, safety, and comfort of its occupants. This project exemplifies how advanced building automation can support eco-friendly design and transformative practices in healthcare environments, enhancing both patient experience and operational excellence.
